America’s Cup World Series

This weekend is the first race in the long-awaited America’s Cup here in Portsmouth.   For those of you not interested in sailing or living on another planet, the America’s Cup was originally awarded by the Royal Yacht Squadron in 1851 for a race round the Isle of Wight which was won by a yacht called America. Since then it has never been won by the Brits so Ben Ainsley, the 5 time Olympic Gold medallist, has got a team together to try and #BringTheCupHome.IMG_8502

For the last few weeks, we have been watching him and his crew flying up the harbour on these amazing 45’ foiling catamarans. Last week he was joined by the other challengers including the Americans, Team Oracle, the present Cup holders, skippered by Aussie, Jimmy Spithill.

The practice day yesterday was miserable, cold and torrential rain all day. We’ve got tickets for the first day of racing today and the sun is out so hopefully should be a cracking day.
